SATA HD not detected on windows xp install.

Hello there people!

I'm just setting up a new machine.

AMD 64 3000
Gigbyte GA-K8VT890-9 mobo
Western Digital 210gb sata hd wd1200jd
512gb Kingston ram
ATI Saphire 256 gfx card

Install was going really well. Did not receive sata hd in time so installed and ide hd booted and installed win xp with no problems. I then got the 120gb Western Digital hd and removed the ide one.
When trying to install windows xp I get a message saying unable to detect hd!!!!! AAAHHHH!!!!!

I've tried creating a floppy to put the VIA 8237 Series ATA drivers on and then pressed F6 to install the drivers. But still no joy.

I could really do with some help here. And would apprieciate your efforts.

WOOHOOO!!!!!!!

I've just this minuite sorted it!!!!!!

After loading the drivers yesterday from the floppy I went into the Bios and changed the sata from Raid to IDE and it found it straight off.

God this was doing my head in all night.

Actually you dont need a Floppy to install SATA drivers ... providing your using a Windows XP SP2 CD

You do need to 'boot' from the correct drive though. ;)

... and its a good idea after installation to check for updated drivers.

oh, and it is easy enough to 'slipstream' SP2 onto/into an earlier XP CD using
Autostreamer ;)

How do you do it without a floppy then?

I have a SP2 disc at hand, and a S-ATA drive at hand too that i want to install but dont wanna inatall a floppy drive.
 
An "XP SP2 CD" will do it for you ... they don't quite use the correct drivers but a native one, which works ... as always, update any drivers after any OS install. ;)
Do not be confused with RAID ... :p
 
so download it to this computer now ... put it on a floppy disk then when im building my new computer i put the disk in when ?! :S

You can read English :confused:

NO! ... you go to the "link" and it tells you how to run the program that makes a 'slipstream' CD ... it won't fit on no floppy. :rolleyes:

Summary...
As you can see using AutoStreamer makes slipstreaming very easy. If you want a very quick and easy way to slipstream Windows XP Service Pack 2 then I'll think you'll agree that AutoStreamer is more than capable. The ISO file that will be created by AutoStreamer will be bootable meaning that you can install Windows XP from your CD/DVD drive. As long as you have suitable CD Writing software that can burn an ISO file as an image you will have no trouble at all.

I was using a Windows XP SP2 cd.
But because the bios was set to RAID instead of IDE for some reason that is why I installed the drivers using the floppy. It wasn't until I checked the bios and changed it from RAID to IDE that it worked.
Perhaps I should of looked in the bios sooner and then I would not of had to use the floppy. But as I hadn't changed anything I didn't think it would change it automatically.
