sata hard drives

Yep. But by the time you've done that, you may as well have brought the
Deluxe. By the time you've purchased adaptors you may as well have got the
Deluxe.

Except that it sounds like he's already got the non-Deluxe and now he wants SATA.

As well, there are only two SATA ports on the Deluxe.
So many motherboards have ports for 6 or 8 PATA drives but virtually
nothing for SATA. Doesn't make much sense these days. You would
figure we'd be starting to see boards with just one PATA port for
optical drives and then at least four SATA ports for hard drives.

Well I'd progressed to a more generic form of the answer (you never know,
somebody might bother to check google groups)

Well thats all very well, but what if you want to use both your opticals and
a PATA drive? I don't think including two IDE channels is wrong... it would
have been nice if they'd included the SiI3114 though.

That would require thought. A rare commodity these days isn't it.
