I bought a sata hard disk but it does not have a standard mains
connector. The shop I got this from also sold me a motherboard with a
SATA lead no other cable. Can someone tell me how this plugs in.

I assume you've got a molex power connection. If so you can get a molex
to sata converter if you're power supply doesn't have sata connectors
already.

Yes I can see a 15 pin connector a sort of larger sata connection.
These leads should be supplied with either mother boards or sata
drives. Ok thanks. don't know how much they will br. Will try and
cadge something from the shop as he sold me both parts.

An adapter like this, can convert the Molex 1x4 power, into two
SATA power connectors. The SATA power it a 15 pin wafer.

If you look on the back of the drive, you might see a section for
a 7 pin connector, and a second section for a 15 pin connector. The
7 pins is data, the 15 pins is power. A small plastic section,
divides those two parts.

It might be more obvious, when looking at this combined data+power
cable.

Paul has answered your OP better than I did with some useful links ;-)

thanks Paul. But that link to a jpg picture is even stranger. in it
the power and data are in the same plug socket. That means that their
has to be a connector on the Motherbd for that. I will have to watch
that one
