I bought a new disk (SATA) to replace my old boot disk. My config now is
that the boot disk is SATA and the data disk is a normal IDE.
I have configured the IDE as slave (per CS). Main mainboard is a a Gigabyte
8INXP and now in one of the parameters I have to set is the function to the
SATA chip... the possibilities are RAID or BASE....
a) what is BASE? I will not use RAID for now, but am not sure what BASE
is...

b) for the config I have... (boot connected to SATA-1 and data disk
connected to slave per CS): anyoen suggests any alternative to connect the
disks? e.g. that combining IDE and SATA in this way is not good?

TIA!

Base being basic sata disk controler drivers as appossed to raid drivers.
Ensure you have sata drivers on floppy, in case you have to use when booting
from disk. ie use F6 option to add drivers.
There shouldnt be any problem using sata and ide

Many thanks!!!
one more thing (sorry for new question): if I use only one IDE is it ok to
use it connected to the slave connector (CS) or it is recommended to have
the first disk always as master?

Hi Luis,
If I understand you correctly, your IDE drive is set to be a slave. What is
the master? If you have a CD-ROM drive, what is it set to? SATA resides on
its own channel so I'd set the paralell IDE drive to be master on the
primary channel and your CD-ROM (if any) set as master on the secondary
channel. I wouldn't use cable select, instead use the jumpers on the IDE HDD
and CD-ROM to set precidence.

Dont use cable select, use jumpers on the slave setting, Though since sata
has its own channel you can leave IDE disk as master

Thanks Bob.
indeed my CD ROM is master but on the sec channel...
At this moment I have no Master in the primary channel...

I will follow the advice

Many thanks!
