I've read some threads about dual booting, but most are for 2 partitions on 1
HD.

How can i get a boot menu for XP and Vista if i have XP on my SATA and Vista
on a single IDE? They're on two different controllers.

If XP is installed and you install vista on a different drive it will
generate the boot menu as part of installation

Well in my bios there is a HD priority within Boot priority. So it sets
either one HD or the other. I never got a boot menu, and i had a fully
working XP pro SP2 when i installed

Installing Vista Beta 2 on a completely separate hard drive is the smart thing to do. Much
better than installing on a separate partition on the same drive as your XP install.

Then all you do is select the boot drive from the BIOS at startup. On one of my ASUS boards
there was a key sequence you could press during POST to bring up the BOOT menu without
entering the BIOS setup. Not every BIOS has this option.

Selecting the boot drive through the BIOS may be more inconvenient than a boot manager, but
it's a whole lot safer for your XP install!

Before I installed Vista I had XP on a SATA drive setup in the BIOS as the
bootable drive.
Using the DVD I installed Vista onto an EIDE hard drive.....This created the
dual boot files on the SATA drive.
Now when I start my system.....it reads the SATA drive ...reads the dual
boot files and then gives me a choice of wether to start XP or
Vista...........no Bios changes are needed and if you do the system will not
boot as the boot files are still on the SATA.
