Hi,

I've just got a QDi P4I865 mobo and a SATA 120Gb HDD.
Do I have to loose a whole IDE channel (master & slave) to use the SATA
drive?

I would like to have the SATA drive as primary boot (WinXP) with an IDE as
slave, then DVD and CDRW drives on the secondary IDE......is this possible?

Cheers!

you dont use any ide channels, you use a sata controller, either built into
your motherboard or in pci form.

Yeah, I realise that.
I'm using the SATA controller on the mobo - really I want to know if I can
use the SATA drive in addition to my (full) IDE channels

Yes, you can. They are independant of each other. There's maybe a setting in
BIOS to give you a boot device order? As long as SATA is set before IDE/ATA
then you're good to go.
