Looking at buying a drive that says it is 3.0 gb/sec, but I also see
some drives which are 1.5gb/sec.
My motherboard is ASUS AS8-X and all it says is SATA, it doesn't say
if it's the 1.5gb/sec or 3.0gb/sec?

Does anyone know or could you help me find out before I buy a drive
that won't work?

thanks

A 3.0Gb/sec drive can run at 1.5Gb/sec. Some drives even have a jumper
option, for forcing one mode or the other.

Chcek to see what version of SATA the Motherboard works to, or how old
it is. The original spec operated at 1.5gig. So if your Mother board
pre-dates 2003 it may operate at 1.5g.

I'm not sure if your motherboard and my goode olde A7N8X Deluxe are
related in any way, but I just installed a new Samsung SATA 3 Gb/s
drive and it works fine even without setting the jumpers to 1.5 Gb/s.
Don't know what the actual transfer rate is though.
