Hi,
I am currently running Win Xp Home, and I am getting a shutdown every 60
seconds. I have applied some settings to keep it from shutting down on me
however.
I have ran every tool in the book that I can find. No Luck...
Still getting this problem.
I have installed the patch for this as well. Is Microsoft saying that if you
are already contaminated with this virus that the patch will fix this by
simply d/l it and installing?
I look in the registry for the key component files for this and I am not
seeing them.
Does anyone have any suggestions? As I said, I have tried everything from
the symatec tool, to mcafee, to whatever. The patch ???
Can someone please help me?
Thanks
Corey

Sometimes it's faster and better to just re-install your Win Xp system. You
gotta know when to holdem and when to foldem.

LOL,
i know however is there absolutely anything I can do? I am trying to avoid
that at all cost,

I'm not sure this is Sasser--If you are in the United States or Canada, I'd
call Microsoft PSS--1-866-pcsafety.

This line is for free help, specifically with virus infections, or problems
with security patches.

If you are elsewhere, the equivalent help is available, and free, but the
phone call may not be toll free--you need to call the number for fee-based
help in your locale, and ask for the free help with virus or security patch
issues.

I think you might be right Bill... I tried the stinger approach as well and
that did not pick it up as the fellow above mentioned...
I guess I will just have to call them unless anyone else has any suggestions,
thanks for everyones help

Is there a chance that this is not the Sasser Virus? As I stated above,
i cannot locate any of these files that are revolved around this.
Have you heard of the shutdown screen happening like this?

Viruses are extremely elusive, Corey -
Try this - 'Malicious Software Removal Tool'

Report back your findings.

Hi, Corey!
I am currently running Win Xp Home, and I am getting a shutdown
every 60
seconds. I have applied some settings to keep it from shutting
down on me
however.

This sounds a lot like the MSBlast worm that was going around a
few years ago, with the seemingly "random" restarts.

Does anyone have any suggestions? As I said, I have tried
everything from
the symatec tool, to mcafee, to whatever. The patch ??? Can
someone
please help me?

I had a problem like what you are having, several years ago, and
the only solution I found to work was to back up as much as you
can, wipe the hard drive clean with fdisk.exe, reformat, and then
reinstall from scratch. Remember, though, what worked for me MAY
NOT NECESSARILY work for you.

Keep us posted.

Debby,
If Corey has "MSBlast" on his machine, he could remove it rather easily
with the Malicious Software Removal Tool with having to reinstall Windows.
