1. Download Stinger from http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger
2. Copy the downloaded file to a 3.5 inch diskette or burn it to a
CDROM.
3. Disconnect the infected computer from the Internet
4. Boot the infected computer into Safe Mode. (see note)
5. Copy Stinger to the hard drive of the infected computer, then
launch and run it to clean up the infected computer.
6. Open Control Panel - Network Connections. Right-click on the icon
for the Internet connection and select Properties. In the Properties
window select the Advanced tab. Click on the checkbox near the top to
select the Windows XP Firewall protection. Click on Apply and OK as
needed to exit.
7. Reboot the computer normally.
8. Reconnect it to the Internet.
9. Go to the Windows Update site and get all of the critical updates.
If the connection is a dial-up service then the first time select only
the Sasser update = "Security Update for Windows XP (KB835732)" and
once it is finished you can go back again for the rest.
10. Update your antivirus software and do a complete virus scan of the
computer.

Note:
To start Windows XP in Safe Mode turn the computer on and start
tapping the F8 key rapidly just as soon as the first information of
any kind shows on the screen (the Windows XP opening screen is too
late). Keep tapping until the Windows XP Startup Menu comes up and
then choose Safe Mode from the menu.
