I'm considering buying my 1st Sapphire brand card, a Radeon 9800
non-pro. Is Sapphire a good brand overall? Due to the low price of
the card I was worried that maybe I was buying problems with a
"problem brand" card.

TIA

In the short time they've been around they seem to have managed to garner a
decent reputation for quality. They're the only manufacturer to have
shipped a passively-cooled 9700, too. I'm certainly very happy with my
9800Pro.

IMHO the best ATI-cards there are after the "built-by-ATI" ones.

I've had no problems with my Sapphire ATI 9100 128MB.

Same card here, no problems. Though I did hear rumors that Sapphire quietly
ships certain 9100s with a 64 bit memory bus. My card came with the
standard 128 bit bus, fortunately. You can check the memory with the
utility Riva Tuner.

I believe Sapphire is the actual manufacturer ATI uses to make the retail
ATI cards. They have been making cards for other companies for many years.
Powercolor on the other hand....yick.

I seem to be one of the few people out there that actually has had a
problem with a Sapphire card. Apparently there was a batch of 9500 Pros
that shipped out with bad memory. But they were quick to admit their
mistake and luckily I was able to get a replacement from Newegg.com
based on their email.
