I just ordered this card because I thought the price was good. Had been
looking on eBay for a plain 9800, but for a couple bucks difference, this
new card seemed like a better deal.
Is there anything wrong with it? I've still got time to cancel the order.

Hi,
I got exactly that card, bought it last summer (for a bit more $$$ ^^)
and i never had any Problems with it.

Hey, thanks. I just wanted to make sure that it is a real 9800Pro (the
picture on newegg's site is wrong). I generally don't order 1st and ask
later, but I knew I had a bit of time to cancel and newegg has been good
about getting things out quickly. Ordering when I did, I stand a chance of
getting it delivered on Friday.

The word "bulk" worries me just a tiny bit. Its always possible they play
with the core and memory speeds and lower them a bit. There used to be all
sorts of cases of OEM versions of cards not being clocked quite as high as
the normal retail versions. Its perhaps worth checking with Newegg that
there is no hidden meaning to the word "bulk".

Chip.

I emailed newegg and they told me to read their readers' reviews and check
the manufacturer's link they provide.
The link was no help because it didn't have a plain 9800Pro listed, but the
readers' reviews say it's a real Pro and comes with all the cables, dongle,
drivers and PowerDVD.

Next month it'll probably be down to $199 :-)

Most likely it comes from the 20-packs that are sold through the normal
distribution channel (which newegg uses by the way--many of their orders
are shipped directly from a wholesaler to the end user) and that are
intended for use by small-volume system builders.

Maybe you'll get lucky like I did. About a year and a half ago I
bought an OEM bulk Sapphire Radeon 9700 Pro from Newegg. When it got
here the card was in a "white box" with Sapphire software, a few
cables and the DVI adapter. According to information on Newegg's site
at that time it came with a one year warranty from Sapphire. About a
week ago the card went belly up on me so I went out and bought an ATI
"built" 9800 Pro locally to replace it. When I pulled the old 9700
Pro out of the computer I noticed that the fan on the heat sink had an
ATI sticker on it instead of the Sapphire sticker that showed in the
picture on Newegg's site when I ordered it. I guess I didn't pay that
much attention when I first got the card. I was in too big a hurry to
install it to replace an ageing geforce 3 ti500. Anyhow, just on
impulse I went to the ATI site and did a lookup on the card based on
the part number. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was
actually an "ATI Built" card and was still under warranty. I filled
out the RMA request and got an email about an hour later with a RMA
number and shipping instructions. So right now the card is somewhere
between Arizona and New York. I guess when I get the
repaired/replaced card back I'll have to auction it off to one of my
deprived nvidia using friends <GRIN>. Either that or keep it for a
backup or maybe build a second system around it.

Anyway, good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever 9800 Pro you end
up with. BTW, I've seen it posted here many times that Sapphire
actually builds the "ATI Built" cards for ATI. So when you get the
new card it would be worth a few minutes to go to ATI's website and do
a card lookup to see which one you got no matter what the packaging
seems to indicate. In fact, that might be a good idea for anyone with
a Sapphire card.
