I have WD 8Gig drive purch in 1999.
Recently added Samsung 40 G drive. When the Samsung is online the WD
disappears and only the Samsung is detected. Any way to make these kids
behave. Dont have CS capable MB so cant use CS for master slave stuff.

thanks

Make sure the jumper is set to Master for one and Slave for other.
Also make sure the cable isn't for CS (has a small missing section of
wire near the MB connector)

AFAIK MB doesn't handle CS, it's the drive itself that sets itself to
be slave/master so you should be able to use CS if both hard drive
supported CS.

Clueless. Not all 80-wire cables have the missing section (which btw
is for seperating CBLID and PDIAG, not Master and Slave) plus an
80-wire cable is absolutely fine for M/S application.
Hell, how else would you attach an over Ultra-33 HD.

Right.
The only requirement is that the CS pin on the MoBo IDE connector is grounded.
