Hi,
I have a win2k machine and recently received a spare dvd
combo drive from dell as a replacement for an older version
that quit service. so I have an OEM drive here.

Problem is ..
* I got the drive
* I cannot find a driver CD neither at Dell nor
at the Samsung sites
Hence I did not install any drivers. I get no errors from hardware
detection. Looks good at first glance.

With reading everything works fine for CD and DVD - writing
CDs doesn't work. An array of burning programs (nero, clone cd)
produces errors (some cryptic code).
The firmware should be o.k. - the type says SM-332BT410

* Any pointers to a Samsung site that has the driver disk or files
* or somebody who had similar trouble with the drive before

Thanks and Cheers

normally DVD and CD Drive do not require Driver for windows 2000.

after the problem is mostly fixed I should post the solution for
others to come ...
* it was not a driver matter - as JR said, you don't need a driver
* it was also not a firmaware matter - various software displays the
firmware status and it showed that the firmware version was the
latest available

* it was a jumper matter - the drive was delivered with the jumper set
to cable select - I changed it to master and that did the job - don't
ask me why - the drive before worked fine with CS
