I have a Samsung ML-1740 printer which refuses to print dark. The
print is so pale I have trouble reading it. It looks as if only every
other dot is printing.

In setup I explicitely told it to turn off the toner save option. I
told it to darken text. No effect on print.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I would appreciate any help.

Mine has never printed very dark either, although text isn't too bad. Are
you sure the text is not color, which gets screened to simulate the
luminocity of the original color? I've tried to get a photo to reproduce
darker by making it darker without result--it just stays gray.

Have you tried printing a clean sheet to remove particles? To do so, hold
the cancel button down for 10 secs. How about redistributing the toner in
the cartridge by gently shaking the cartridge side to side gently for a bit?
Lastly, are you due for a cartridge change?

That's the pain about inexpensive printers, isn't it? When it starts
misbehaving, you have to decide if you want to invest in a $$$$ cartridge
or think about replacing it. My worry is that it will quit while I have
unused toner or ink.

Thanks for your suggestions. I finally managed to ge the toner saver
off. It helped some, but not enough.
