Hello,

Recently a friend of mine purchased a Samsung ML-1710P laser printer.
He uses the computer simply as a sofisticated typing machine and this
makes for a old computer. His specifications are:

Pentium processor, 120 MHz
24MB RAM
1 GB free disk
Windows 98(*)

I am not sure about the version of Win98. I know there are no service
packs or other updates installed but I'm not sure if it is Win98 Second
Edition. The Win98 build is dated 4.10.1998 and it's the portuguese version.
Control Panel->System shows version 07200-OEM-0071355-18937.

The printer installed correctly (through the parallel port, the PC has no
USB ports), at least apparently. It prints the test page correctly and
*most* of the strict text documents (from notepad).

If trying to print from Word (version from Office 97) it prints correctly
*sometimes*.

The problem is that, about half of the time you try to print a document,
it prints instead this message:

INTERNAL ERROR - FALSE
POSITION: 0x74830 (4777232)
SYSTEM: H6FWSIM/xl_image
LINE: 467
VERSION: QPDL 1.16 10-29-2003

The message is always the same (printed on paper) except the position
field which varies.

The only thing about this configuration is that the computer only has
24MB RAM instead of the 32MB "required" according to the advisable minimum
system requirements. Somehow, it doesn't seem that this is the problem
though.

If anyone can help, please post your thoughts here. If possible, please
email me too at (e-mail address removed).

Thank you very much,

John Guy

Why do you think this is not the problem?
Since memory is so cheap nowadays, why not
insert at least 64 Mb RAM and see if complying
with the minimum requirements allows the printer
to print OK?
