I've had five IBM Hard Drives over the last 5 years from 15Gb to 80Gb. One
failure,
a 45Gb unit about 3 years old.

I want to replace this failed Drive, and also add another for Storage of
Music and Video.

I am thinking of buying Samsungs this time, the 120Gb SP1203N Model.

I would be interested to hear if Samsung still has the reputation for
reliability it once had.

Any opinions appreciated.

Thanks.

All disks fail .. eventually, and it is foolish to factor in the
"reputation" for a particular vendor when deciding if you should buy
one particular model of disk drive.

So, if availability and prevention of data loss is important for you,
then consider hardware RAID (and backup, of course).

You could have the most reliable disk drive on the planet, with
1,000,000 hours MTBF, and it could still fail the first day you use
it.

Oh yeah,... makes me want to rush right out and buy a YUGO!!
