When my son and I both had earlier versions of messenger, we were able
to use the video.

Now that I have downloaded a later version, he can no longer see/use
my video. And audio is completely out of the question.

So do both of us have to have the same version to use these options?

Greetings Dancer,

All versions of Messenger that currently connect to the .NET Messenger service have audio
features that are completely compatible with one another, as such, versions should not a
problem (although if anyone in this equation is using 6.0, they should upgrade to 6.1 because
some audio functionality was fixed slightly).

However, keep in mind that if you're using MSN Messenger 6.x, it's "Webcam" functionality is
not compatible with previous versions of Messenger -- instead use the Actions menu, "Start
Video Conference" option.
