I send an email from machine 1 to machine 2 asking for
Help. I open the email on machine 2 (connected by phone
line- no network, router, etc). The attached file does
not open when clicked on because Windows does not know
how to start it since tyhere is no extension.

I reversed the procedure- same problem on the first
machine.

Why can't XP open the attached file? The attached file
in both cases was RcBuddy.MsRcIncident.

Please advise....

Thanks
Chris

MsRcIncident is the extension.. Do you have Remote Assistance enabled
on machine 2?

Thanks for replying...in the meantime I have discovered
that I sent several remote assistance requests in the
past couple days. My email program is Eudora and it
automatically renames the attached file by 1 each time.
So Windows does recognmize RcBuddy.MsRcIncident and opens
the appropriate file. But the subsequent files were
renamed as RcBuddy.MsRcIncident2, RcBuddy.MsRcIncident3
and so worth. Windows obviously did not know how to open
these attachments.

Now, I have another problem! After receiving the request
from machine1 by my email on machine2, I am asked if I
want connect to machine1 now? I say yes and I get a
message indicating that "the remote host name could not
be resolved." I am going to search for help on this
error, but in the meantime, if you have any ideas I would
greatly appreciate it.

Thanks again

Chris

I searched and found some info: in machine 1(the machine
I am trying to control from machine2) I enabled the
Remote Desktop and added mysdelf as a User. But I am
still getting the same error message.

So I guess I need a little more help.

Thnaaks Chris
