We are setting up an AD domain that matches our external
domain. When we try to add an addtional DC we get the
error that the domain is not an Active directory domain.
We tried DCdiag and NSlookup and they all try to resolve
the external IP. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Remove your ISP's DNS addresses from your IP properties. Apparently it';s
probably qerying the outside DNS for this info. You need to ONLY use your
internal DNS. THis goes true for all machines, DCs and clients.

We don't have the ISP DNS ip configured on our server. We
even disconected the DC (which is our DNS server) from the
ouside world. DCDIAG is still trying to query the external
IP. Do you think we need to reinstall DNS?

Thanks

All members of an AD domain must point only to the internal AD DNS server
for DNS, which is usually your DC.
DO NOT use you ISP's DNS on any NIC of any domain member.

If you lose internet resolution when using your local DNS then configure
your local DNS server as per 300202 - HOW TO: Configure DNS for Internet
Access in Windows 2000

This could very well be a disjointed namespace, can you post an ipconfig
/all and the domain name from ADUC?
If the namespace is disjointed DNS will forward what should be the internal
name to the ISP.

I agree, we'll need more info here. Maybe there's a reference to the ISP's
in the nameserver's tab?
