same drivers

is it true that if you had hp drivers installed on your computer you
could probably run a samsung printer off the same port? That is, that
hp and samsung drivers are mostly interchangeable?
 
The HP Deskjet 500 driver is just about the most generic one there is, so it
may be possible.
