Brad

I have been pearing through the message board and have
come accross sevral instances of the same or similar
problem that has been occuring on my PC. New install,
working fine and then randomly my PC shut down (re-booted)
into Win2000 into scandisk because of improper shut-down
and then blue screen with the error that a registry may be
corrupt or not thre or un writeable "system\system32
\config\SOFTWARE" {c0000218}..now I boot to safe mode,
and same blue screen..so I wait a while before powering
back on, then it boots into safemode, no problem, I
followed suggestions listed on blue error screen and made
sure there was no shadowing software r drive cache
enabled, thenre-started into normal boot, and it booted
just fine...So..I am downloading file lastnight and all
the suddenpc re-boots, same senerio..scandisk, blue
screen, same error message. SO I try booting into safe
mode, same thing again..I wait a while, then power PC back
on (a while meaning an hour or longer) and it boots just
fine.. So why is this occuring so speradiclly, and why
does the error message or the entire error itself occur
then seemingly self fix for just a short amount of time,
an then strat all over.and yes I have scanned PC several
times, no virus, and no sector problems with disk... Also
the error occurs with disk cache enabled or disabled...
ANy help would be awesume.(yes even with a clean install,
the problem happens all over again ) All files and patche
and fixesall up to date also... This error is driving me
crazy because i can find no source of problem...HELP

The symptoms sound consistent with hardware failure.

I have run all diganostic tests and drive reports no
error. Also if I were to re install win 2000, sometimes I
run into error during setup that Windows 2000 Setup can
not copy icam3.inf ?? And other times it will install
fine.. THats why it is hard to pinpoint error..espeially
because I have run into same problem with brand new hard
drive.. Have never run into this error beore until around
the end of November 2003... This error is quite mystery
to me.. Any more advice or insight?? ANYONE?

Only what Dave said. Hardware is more likely than anything else
after eliminating malware and bad drivers. Sometimes this crash and
corruption can be linked to bad RAM or HD controller/disk. If you
just added new RAM, suspect that first.
