I know there are no fans of Samba here, but if you do happen to use it, what
is the affect if any in flipping the Native on a domain that uses Samba for
Windows File Sharing only. We use Samba for home drives only and I'm ready
to flip the swith but just want to make sure the Samba box will be able to
handle it.

How do you authenticate to the CIFS shares?

There should be almost no difference - native or not. Dare I say test
environment ;)

Test it but you should be fine. I have done ops in environments that has had
multiple flavors of Samba and other CIFS implementations that were fine in
native mode. Native vs Mixed is about the replication between domain
controllers, not client access.

Even if you have issues, point the Samba box at a workstation for its auth and
it will pass through to the domain just fine anyway and plus then you get proper
failover for domain controllers.
