Samba Server Connectivity Vista Home

I cannot connect the a Samba server with Vista Home. I think it's because
Microsoft's default security policy is to use only NTLMv2 authentication,
which Samba 2.x doesn't support.

With Vista Business, the secpol.msc program allows you to change the
security policy setting, but this program doesn't seem to exit in Vista
home.

How can I change from NTLMv2 only to Send LM & NTLM - Use NTLMv2 Session
Security If Negotiated in Vista Home Edition?

Thanks for any assistance.

Admin Tools/Local Security Policy/Local Policy/Security Options...scroll
down...Network Security: LAN Manager. Right click, select Properties.

Vista Home doesn't have Local Secority Policy Editor (secpol.msc) so this is
not an option.

If you're running a version of Vista that cannot use secpol.msc, you can edit
the registry instead. Just change the value of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LMCompatibilityLevel
from a 3 to a 1.

I'm on Vista Home Premium 64 bit. This version doesn't have secpol.msc.
Also, the registry key mentioned above doesn't exist.

Unfortunately, no one knows to whom you are giving this information since
you are not posting on a real forum as you think you are and you didn't
quote any of the thread to which you are replying. You are using a web
interface that leeches Usenet posts and most of the rest of us are using
real newsreaders. We don't see what you do. If you want to participate in
Usenet, the better way is to set up a newsreader. This is very easy to do
and I'll give you information about that below. If you prefer to use a
forum, then here are two excellent ones:

In the meantime, I gather from the Subject line and the little you wrote in
this post that you have tried the fix for Samba.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
LmCompatibilityLevel
2. Set the value to 1 and reboot.

Note the instructions in #1 - if the key doesn't exist, create it.

And now for the Usenet information:

Since you are using a web interface, you may not realize that this is really
a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn to use
a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use
Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it. Here
