safety whilst reinstalling firewall and antivirus

Hi, because of intermittant troubles sending and receiving mail and
downloading web pages, I am going to uninstall and download again my Zone
alarm firewall and Grisoft antivirus programs.

Is there any particular order in which to download these two programs, i.e.
one before the other, and what if any precautions should i take in
downloading them since just prior to this I presumably would be unprotected
by at least one of these programs not yet working?
 
Probably you'll be safe as long as you don't download anything else or check
your email inbetween uninstalling and then reinstalling them, just don't go
to any other sites, I'd suggest viruses are more nasty so fight those first.
