My icons are in the bottom right hand box and when I click on them don't give me the option to safeley remove hardware, when I click on it I get no reponse

yeah, that sounds about right, been doing that since Win95 ... me, I just totally ignore the icon, when it does decide to be there.

A reboot sometimes works.

Show hide taskbar icons may be a culprit.

Have you thought of getting a book on Win7?
Plenty on the market & library's to look at?

What's the point of a Help forum,if your idea of help is get
a book ,up until now I found this forum helpful,if you don't know the answers just say so.

Hmmmm someone has a bee in their bonnet

The reason he mentioned a book is simple.

Not everyone, everywhere, can remember every problem and give a resolving solution for it from memory

Writing in a book however is always there

Did you buy a full version of windows 7 Ult or the upgrade?
Was there any issues with the previous system before the upgrade?
If you bought the full version did you do a complete clean install and not ghost it onto a bigger drive?

I bought a full version of ult,the only isues were that I thought it would be quicker after a reinstall.I didn't ghost it onto a bigger drive, not that I would know how to do that if I had wanted to.

While everyone has read books on the subject you need the brainpower of Bill Gates to even understand the language let alone the logic. The average person who asks for help does so because they are computer illiterate, this is not helped by the terminology

You lot, button it. How would you feel if you went to a subject-specific forum, asked for help, and was advised to buy a book?

Joe has a prob, I'd like to see the guy get some help without any smartass replies, thank you.

Software, particularly OS's, not really my forte, me a hardware perp, but I'll always pipe up if I see something I know about or at least have a passing knowledge of.

Myself, I'd (in old terminology) 'format: c' and do a clean install. Then review the situation. Not a lot of help I know, but as I said, Software/Windows not my speciality.

Good luck with your probs Joe.

I for one will certainly not "BUTTON IT"

I am entitled to pass an opinion whether you like it or not

You're absolutely right about 'Whether I like it or not' it matters not one jot how I feel about harmless comments and opinions.

However, advice that is worthless, misleading, unhelpful, condescending and smacks of a forum clique does concern me as I have the forum's reputation at heart.

This fella wants help, he's new, it would please me a great deal if somebody could help or if they can't help at least refrain from giving less than useful advice.

As I said, put yourself in their shoes.

Posted problem, example:

'I'm concerned the timing is out on my 2005 Peugeot, can any of you guys on this specialist Peugeot Forum please help me?'

Answer, example:

'Buy a book'

I rest my case.

Hi joetheghost as I said in a previous post I am just an armature and buggered more operating systems than you have had hot dinners, but having been in your position this is what I would do. First have you any files that you want to keep documents, pictures, music etc download them on an external drive or pen drive. Then have you tried to use the right hand click "Run as Administrator", if this does not work, I think I would format the C drive and reinstall Windows 7, a lot of work I know and then reinstall your saved files. I believe this is the only way you will get your PC back up and running. As your previous post in a different thread implies that you have attempted to remove some of the the stuff that you think you don't need, obviously the operating system does need these so leave well alone. Don't forget to install all the drivers for your hardware as well. Don't mind some of the comments you have had in this post and the way they have been said but TriplexDread is right spending a little time reading a book on a specific operating system will assist you and broaden your knowledge and also you will be able to help others. Anyway good luck and let us know how you got on as I am interested.

Hi there Joe.

I know this might not bethe exact soloution you're seeking, but I found a workaround, which enables one to place a shortcut on the desktop. It's very easy and perhaps it would help. Here's the link to Leo Notenboom's how-to. (I'm using Win 7 Pro and it works just fine on here.)

Hope it helps. :)

- If that happens to me, I shut down the PC and then remove...Not really a solution but a so-so workaround.

- Does this happen on ALL of your USBs? Or just a select few?
