I had to rebuild a single server domain over the weekend, so I added a
temporary DC & DNS server to preserve the domain.

Now the original server is back online & I'm ready to remove the temp
server. I'm familiar with the dcpromo process to demote it, but what
do I need to do to remove it from the domain as a DNS server properly?

Thanks,
D

When you demote it if the zone is AD Integrated the zone will be deleted,
because only DCs can have AD integrated zones.
Just point all machines to the new DC for DNS.
