Matt

I have many games that use the above copyprotection, but
everytime i try to start them, it says "Please insert the
correct CD-ROM and restart the application" even thought
I HAVE inserted the CD-ROM. the games I have that use it
are ALL the original games, none of them copied (legally
or illegally, as in i DO own the original bought, paid
for copy). This is annoying me so much, I have restarted,
re-installed windows twice, and re-installed the games
countless times, but still....every single time i try to
actually lay the game, it gives the above message.

And before some tells me to download and install the
Microsoft Safedisc patch, I have, and yes, i AM running
my user account as Administrator (the amount of times
i've been told to check this).

So please, anyone who can help would be VERY appreciated

Tried a different drive? From the sound of it and what you've done there's
no much left to try unfortunately, can you see if you can borrow another
drive of a friend?

Its funny copy protection only pisses off the legit buyers :), and the
rest just crack it and don't have a problem with it :)

Too right, it's just an annoyance. However even cracking it is an
annoyance, I say tell safedisc and other developers of this kinda stuff just
to sod off, and stop overhyping their useless products.

They don't work, they won't ever work, they'll only annoy people.

I have 2 drives as it is, both DVD, both don't work
(different makes, and one's a DVD-RW). And also, if I
crack it, most of the games I have won't allow me to
Multiplay online, and with say, Battlefield 1942, there's
no other point but to Multiplay :(

So annoying, as this only happened since I changed my
Mobo for, what I thought, was a better Gigabyte model
(did have a cheap and cheerful ECS model before, which I
fried....but shhh). So all I can think of is to update
the BIOS....but thats erm...what fried my last one

Hi Matt,

In addition to the other advice so far...

Let's try troubleshooting that issue. Here's some solutions which have worked:

1. Before we begin, please save a restore point for your system.
How to use Windows XP System Restore:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/gethelp/systemrestore.asp

2. You might be affected by problems similar to the Insert CD error.
- Try the advice and DL at: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=228985
Another trick that I found sometimes works is to make the limited account an
administrator account and run that game once. This should create the registry
settings and permissions for that user to be able to properly run the game.

3. Kazaa or Kazaa light is installed on your system.
- Uninstall the game(s) and Kazaa, and reinstall from original CD.

4. Multiple CD drives on your system including Virtual CD drives.
- Disconnect all but the main CD drive and try the game. You
might have an older drive, or a CD Writer which is incompatible
with the Safe Disk copy protection on the CD. (Contact Vendor).

5. Your antivirus or application firewall might be conflicting with it.
- Disable the software temporarily.

6. There might be a patch available for your game to correct the issue.
- Try www.avault.com/pcrl/patches_list.asp?letter=a/ or the game's site.

7. Your desktop may need to be set at least 800x600 and 16 colors.
- Click Start / (Settings) Control Panel / Click Display

8. Your Video, Sound, or Monitor drivers may need updating.
- Try updating your Video drivers using the instructions at:
http://mvps.org/nibblesnbits/Video.html#drivers

9. You might have software running on your system which is causing conflicts.
- Temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
AV, and ad blockers using: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php
You can lookup what a program does before you disable it here:
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm

10. If you created other drive letters on your system by installing another drive,
creating partitions or virtual drives you may need to change the CD back
to the same drive letter it was originally. Usually the CD uses the letter D:
- Click Start / Run / type: diskmgmt.msc < to access the tool to change it.

11. Maybe a Microsoft Security patch is the culprit. The only way to be sure is
to Unplug from your Internet connection, and then repair Windows using
this method: http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

After you reboot, try the game again. If it works, save a new restore point.

Lastly, boot up your system, turn on your XP Internet Firewall, plug back
into your Internet connection and install all Critical and Recommended updates
from: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com one at a time. Test the game after
each update to find which is causing the game not to start on your PC. :-)

just crack it.
www.gamecopyworld.com
as for playing online, the cracks will not prevent that.
In order to play online all you need is a legit key (which
you have). I play all my games cracked even tho I own
them because it is easier that way(incl BF1942, Call of
Duty, many more). No hunting down discs, no scratching
them up. Besides safedisc has been known to bring down
frame rates, crackin the game fixes that.

You could try using a program I use called Virtual-CD from
http://www.virtual-cd.com. I rip all my CDs using this. And it will work
with SafeDisc discs. You usually have to tell it to read the raw data, and
CD geometry. I love this program.
