The Tech Report - AMD to end BIOS/processor compatibility problems?

Nice find, I like the part that mentions that some manufactures will
put an OS on a disc to support bootup. This sounds like a plug for
Gnu/linux live CD, I think it's a step forward.

How many people who are plaining to upgrade the cpu will just plug in
the new cpu without a bios upgrade? Most people that I know who do this
upgrade the bios before the upgrade, so that way they know it's the
newer version. Now I did hear about people building new systems, who
got a motherboard with an old bios, and could not boot the new
processor, this would be a benefit for them. I would hope that most
vendors would check to see what bios is shipped out, that way it cuts
down on RMA's.

Or more likely DR-DOS, which is now open-source too. They would need an
OS that runs in Real Mode, to upgrade a flashrom. I've had plenty of
times when I couldn't find a DOS floppy to boot up from to flash a BIOS.
Including a Real Mode boot cd would be perfect.
