(Using Win98 original) Is there a web browser which is inherently safe for
viewing web pages? Currently I have Opera (without the Java component) and
IE6 (with virtual machine) installed on my system. Thanks in advance.

Try Mozilla and/or its cousins such as K-Meleon and Firebird. I
wouldn't say they are "inherently safe" but they are orders of
magnitude safer than IE

There is not such thing as a safe, graphical web browser. But if you want
safe, I think Mozilla is very good. Opera isn't too bad either.
The other option is to go for a text browser through Unix and even then I'm
not so sure. I think there were a few old schoolers floating around from
ages pass that attacked that.
Oh yeah, the other option is to move to a Mac. I'm using my sister's
occasionally and it's not bad. If I wasn't doing what I'm doing, I'd
probably shift to a Mac meself.

Kind regards,

Safe is making sure you have all the patches and updates for your operating
system and browser etc. As well as AV and anti spyware and a firewall.

i would use firebird or mozilla 1.4, 1.5. i think they are saver than the
ie, cause of all the active x that is integrated in the internet explorer.
