I have a Western Digital External firewire 120 GB hard drive that I keep all
my documents/important data/mp3's/backup copies of app.'s, etc. I just use
my PC's built in hard drive for the OS and needed app.'s. I may be going on
vacation out of state for a few weeks soon. I'm worried about burglars or
fire. Can I just disconnect the whole external hard drive and store the
drive in a bank safe deposit box? Is that practical or will it sitting there
make it loose data as it's not hooked up to anything? Do I have to worry
about any magnetic fields wiping the data out? If not practical, other
alternatives? Stuff on the drive is very private, so I don't want to leave
it with a person. I also want to store some CD roms with it, will probably
need a 10" by 10" box at least. Thanks.
