safe mode

I have a virus I am trying to delete. The instructions
said to restart computer in safe mode. I have a hp
pavilion mx70 and am using windows xp. I am unable to
find anywhere how you get windows xp in to safe mode.
Hope someone can help me. Thanks, c.b.

I'm not familiar with the HP model you are using, but the standard method to
get safe mode is to restart the PC, then hit the F8 key every few seconds
after the BIOS startup screen and before the windows screen appears.
Choose safe mode on the menu that appears, then hit enter.
I couldn't find your model listed, but all HP's seem to be much the same.

Hi,

To use a Safe Boot option, follow these steps:


1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your
keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple
operating systems, you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.

2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select an option,
and then press ENTER.

3. When the Boot menu appears again, and the words "Safe Mode" appear
in blue at the bottom, select the installation that you want to start,
and then press ENTER.
