I need to start Windows XP home in safe mode. I printed
the instructions in Start, help, safe mode. They don't
apply to my windows. How do I start in safe mode?????

(I need to re-install a program, and that requires the
removal of the original, which requires that I delete
some particular files. One of those files will NOT
delete, so I figure if I can start in safe mode, mabe I
can delete it)

Thanks for all help.

Try the following to enter Safe Mode, boot the system, start tapping F8,
when the menu appears, select Safe Mode and press enter.

If you are unable to delete the file in Safe Mode, go to the following
website, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm scroll to number 39,
click the entry in the right column.

When I hit the F8 key, a menu comes up, but 'safe mode'
isn't one of the choices. I'm beginning to wonder about
my program. (bought all nice and legal, but why don't I
have 'safe mode'???)

shut down PC. Restart. As soon as keyboard is active,
press F8. Scroll to select safe mode and proceed with
rebooting in safe mode.
