safe mode

Hello, I am trying to start my pc in safe mode and it does not work. I
have xp pro sp2. I press F8 key and then what I get is a list of start up
media, no safe mode indications. I tried to hit repeatedly the F8 key and
it does not work.

What is the problem? Is there another way to get my pc to start in safe
mode?

Your timing is wrong...

you need to hit F8 after the bios messages

but prior to the OS loading


If you still can get it...

run msconfig and in the general tab...opt for diagnostic startup


(you will need to change it back to get a normal startup again)
 
When you get the startup media list select to boot from the HDD then
immediately hit F8 again and that should get you into safe mode.
