hi...
what is the advantage of "safe mode" when it comes to
applying a new application for instance? or installing a
program?
and...when trying something in safe mode doesnt work
out, then what? does restating your computer put you
back to where you were before "sfae mode"?
hopefully this isnt too confusing....thanks

With Windows XP there is no reason to install software in Safe Mode. In
older Windows operating systems it was recommended, but I don't even
remember why. In XP chances are that the Windows Installer will not even
run in safe Mode.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

Sometimes try to delete a stubborn file can be accomplished in Safe Mode and
not in normal mode.

If you use the F8 method to start in Safe Mode, just rebooting your machine
should restart in normal mode.

thanks for your help!!
the problem was that the computer would bootup and then shut back down..
it go till where the desktop should have started and then it would shut back
down and restart again...and we tried everything possible, but finally ended
up having to reformat the whole thing and just starting over...
maybe she installed something "bad"...not sure, but she said she was in
safe mode...assuming she could go back and "fix" things if something went
wrong...but thanks for the "safe mode" info...
