Further to my previous message I have tryed to boot in
safe mode using F8, for some reason the mouse and
keyboard are not recognized until after the XP Pro logo
is displayed, too late to use. Any suggestions on that
one would also be appreciated.

Can you use the arrows (between letters and numerber pad
on right side of keyboard) or tab key and enter to
navigate. Sometimes you can use tab key to move
highlighted area and enter to select. If that fails might
try reboot when first screen appears hit delete key to
enter bios and check to see if keyboard and mouse support
are enabled again you have to use arrows and enter key.
Hope this helps.

Using the System Configuration Utility. If you can start the computer
normally into Windows, then this is the easiest way to restart the computer
in Safe mode.
To configure the System Configuration Utility to start the computer in Safe
mode:
1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
3. Type msconfig and then click OK.
4. The System Configuration Utility appears. Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option,
and then click OK.
5. You then see the prompt to restart the computer. Click Restart.
The computer restarts in Safe mode. (This can take several minutes.)
When you finish troubleshooting (in Safe mode) repeat these steps, but in
step 4, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT," and then close all programs and restart the
computer as you normally would.

I actually prefer the F8 method for starting in Safe Mode. I don't want to
risk doing something wrong in boot.ini.

Good point.

[And it's also the reason I'll never use a USB or wireless keyboard.]
