When I try to open in 'Safe Mode' the black screen with a long list of
opened 'dll' files appears, but then it just stops there.
All I can do is use the reset button on my computer case and I have to boot
up in normal mode.
Can anyone suggest a cure?
Thanks

When it "stops there", how long do you wait to see if anything happens? It
might take it a minute or two before anything else happens in some cases.

What are the last 3 lines showing on the screen?

How are you accessing Safe Mode? Watch your startup screens for a boot
menu; there might be one depending on you pc brand and other things. On my
Gateway, it's F10.

Can you tell us why you are trying to boot into Safe Mode? Is there a
problem you are trying to fix from Safe Mode? Can you boot normally?

This problem has been there for some time.
The problem file seems to be mup.sys which stops the boot up in Safe Mode.
Since posting this request, I have found out that a bios upgrade may cure
the problem, but I am weary about trying an upgrade, as I know they can go
wrong.

The files are listed as they load. If mup.sys is listed on the screen, it
was the last file that was loaded successfully. It's the one after it, the
one whose name is not displayed, that failed to load. And that one does
take some time to load, a minute or two in some cases.

Sharon, I have this same problem. I have no problem booting regularly. In
safe mode mup.sys is the last displayed item. I've left it there for 15
minutes. Nothing. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
