The instructions in my previous post do not require you to get to the
Desktop.
This bit will apply but if that does not work go to the next option. An
alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and
select option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.
Background information on suspected Stop Error Message
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797142.aspx
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article.)
The kernel mode I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it
failed. This error also might occur during an upgrade to Win XP on
systems that use higher throughput ATA disks or controllers with
incorrect cabling. In some cases, your system might appear to work
normally after you restart.
What exactly is your aunt's computer make and model? Are you using the
CD for your aunt's computer in your aunt's computer?
It a bit confusing what you have done? Does the Stop Error message
relate to the drive being in your aunt's computer or your own?
You can put the drive in you own computer as a slave retaining your hard
drive as the master. This will usually enable you to retrieve data files
from the drive when it cannot be accessed in the problem computer.
The Stop Error is needed when you try to boot your ant's computer.

Hope this helps.
