Just got directway 2 way internet installed and am sadly
attemting to network all 4 comps together to utilize
same.Have Realtek rtl8139 family pci ethernet nic
installed on all 4,problem is is that satelite modem
utilizes usb port so cannot directly connect to the
linksys router and the windows xp network connections
wizard is a waste of my time.Is there an actual way I can
connect all 4 and utilize the modem connected to the usb
port on the one.Or is there a recommended router to
utilize for connecting a Directway modem up to use on
more than 1 computer ,thanks and please I am well aware
that DSL ,Cable modems ,or dial up would be faster but
these are not an available option.

I don't know if the setup is 'exactly' the same, but I have done just that
using StarBand (also satellite internet). I am fortunate that the StarBand
satelite modem has both USB and Ethernet connections...but I think the
concept is the same.

My satelite comes into a satelite modem with coaxial cables. Out of the
modem is either USB or Ethernet (I use Ethernet) and connects to a NIC on my
PC - I'll call it my gateway. This gateway PC runs the StarBand software
that handles compression, connections, etc. It also runs WinProxy to share
the connection (must use this instead of ICS due to IPSec Passthrough
requirements from my VPN). The gateway PC also has a second NIC that I
connect to a hub - this is where you would put your Linksys router. My
other PCs and laptop connect to the hub and get their IP and DNS info from
WinProxy.

This is better explained at www.starbandusers.com under Networking.

Here is a basic diagram of what I'm talking about:

Satelite
|
Satelite Modem
|
Gateway PC (acts like a router with 2 NICs and WinProxy)
|
Hub (could use Linksys here)
|
Rest of networked PCs

I hope this helps.
