Does anyone know of a freeware program that will keep a high speed cable
connection active (I know, it shouldn't need it, but unique
circumstances).
I've searched and found Keep Connection, StayOn, and quite a few others,
but their descriptions seem to be for dialup connections only.
TIA

Because of the very nature of a cable connection, I think we'd need the
nature of the "unique circumstances" to know why the connection is dropping
out in the first place. That is, of course, unless I'm missing something.

Use ping-command to create network activity...

Connection is in a very weak signal area (no other choice, out of range
for DSL). If internet isn't used for about 5 minutes, their modem
drops its connection. They replaced the modem with one that is less
likely to do this and it has helped. As long as there is traffic, it
works just fine.

Hi Lee,

The following talks about dialup as well (probably because these
programs are mainly for this type of application) BUT as far as I can
see you could use it just as well on a non dialup system.

Used it for years. Excellent IMO.

John...... many thanks, I just downloaded it and will set it up.

Lee ...

You might try tuning in to your favorite
internet radio station ...

I used to do this with AOL dial-up
and found it very effective for keeping
the connection alive by streaming the music ...

Fortunately, I no longer use AOL
and my dial-up is now aDSL ...
