I have a similar problem with the S-Video output on my laptop. I went up to point number 5 like Cari (MS-MVP) ilustrated but cannot change the default monitor. The properties button is disabled. Could it be a driver proble

1) Connect TV to PC with S-Video cable
2) Turn TV ON. No version of Windows can 'see' a device that is turned
off
3) Because a TV is NOT a plug and play device, you will now have to restart
XP. On restart, XP will detect there is now a TV attached
4. Ensure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.... I guess
this should really be #1 but I don't want to go back and change all the
numbers
5. Right click on the Desktop and select Properties. In the Settings tab,
click on Advanced, then the Monitor tab. If you have no Monitor tab, you do
not have the latest drivers for your graphics card from the manufacturer's
website but are using Microsoft generic drivers. Go back to Step 4 above
and get the right drivers
6. From the Monitor tab, 'switch' output from Monitor to TV. Audio will
still emanate from the PC's speakers since S-Video is a VIDEO ONLY signal.
If you want audio to emanate from the TV, use the Line Out on the souncard
and re-route the audio signal to the TV with standard composite (red and
white) cables
