Trying to use my new system to show videos on a TV monitor and it only works
during boot up. Once the desktop shows, the screen goes blank.

I get the message on the bottom of the screen that says the "Windows Media
Connect Folder sharing has been stopped. A private network address is
required."
Yet, I do not have a network set up.

Dell has not been able to help me so far, their information does not apply
to the problem.

Well first of all the GFX card problem and the network problem are not
related.
We do need some more info about your system, which GFX card, etc..

The problem you're having is a known one with nvidia when one does not
specify his TV signal (in your case S-Video out) and leaves the settings to
automatic.

Sorry for not getting back to you, the automatic notification apparently does
not work & just checked back today for replys.

I'm not sure as to where to look for the information you requested. I ran
the Belarc System advisor and didn't find anything I could use. Here is what
Dell says came with the system: P5288 CARD (CIRCUIT), GRAPHICS, 128, X300,
SERVER ENHANCED, MRMGA8, 2.

Does that help or do I need to keep on digging??

OK, here goes.. It's a Dimension 4700 with Xp Pro. Dell's "free" support
only deals with OS problems, sounds like bait & switch a the very least.
They could only point me to a MS site that didn't seem to deal with the
problem.

The video card is PCI Express x16: ATI Radeon X300 (RV370)

Thanks, Trader
