i have made a previous posting regards this but cannot understand the
answers.
what i want to do is install windows xp home from the hdd (without cd rom).
i have copied the i386 folder onto a new formatted and partitioned hard
drive.
i need to force set up to run from the executable file on the hdd. i have
tried the winxp set up disks but they only allow you to continue set up from
the cd.
i need to enter dos mode and run winnt32.exe or whatever the set up command
is.
can anybody tell me which boot disk to use and what commands i need to do
this. i have tried using the win98 boot disk and changing directory to
c:\i386 but i get a file creation error nearly every time. the only time i
have managed to switch to the i386 directory on the hard drive and run set
up, i get the message... winnt32.exe 'this program cannot be run in dos
mode.
