can anyone tell me how to run set up from a hard drive instaed of the cd?

in a knowledge base article i have read the following advice......'if you
continue to receive errors during set up, copy the i386 folder from the cd
rom to your local hard drive and try to run set up from your hard disk.

how do i copy? presumably in dos mode??????

and then how do i initiate the set up to work from hdd instead of cd?
