I would like to connect a serial-ata hdd to an eide controller and make it a
primary/boot disk. This is because my motherboard has only s-ata raid
controller onboard.

I've run across a controller which enables you to connect eide hdds to s-ata
controller. Is it possible to do the other way around with it. If not, what
is the solution to this?

Most Raid controllers will run a single hard drive in non raid fashion.
Which motherboard do you have ?

I stand corrected - my motherboard recognizes the s-ata hdd (though only if
I enable s-ata controller and disable s-ata RAID i guess).

The case in point is that Norton Ghost 2003 does not recognize s-ata hdd in
DOS i.e. when bacing-up/restoring partitions.

Any remedy to this?

I myself have never used Norton Ghost.

Finally, I succeded in getting the WD Raptor to work via s-ata controller.
The trick was to enable also the RAID ROM (and not only s-ata controller).
Norton Ghost restored the partition from eide Maxtor to the Raptor without a
problem.

Such controllers are supposedly possible, but there is no market for
them yet. There might be in the future.
