HI

Im looking to produce a CD of data in the form of an MDB file, the CD will
be hopefully sold for charity..

Obviously i cannot assume that everyone has access installed on the PC's so
i need a way of adding somthing to the CD to make it run on other peoples
PC's

I have heard about a version of access that is called runtime (run-time?)
and as i understand it this version would be "royalty free" redistributable.

But alas i cannot find anwhere to get hold of the damn program, i can find
plenty of updates for it, but no real info on the program its self?

does microsoft havea separate runtime website?

TIA

Tom

Tom,

The tools used to create runtime installations of Access 2002 come with
Microsoft Office XP Developer. As far as I know, these tools are not
available separately.

Bugger :(

Any other ideas?

You could always give the file to a consultant who programs in Access and
have them create the run-time version for you. I'm sure you could have that
done for a small fee since you've already created the database. Many of the
MVPs in this NG offer consulting services and you might find one who can
help. Check their posts. Many list their website.

Well i know a bloke who has a copy, but he refuses to do this point blank as
he says its not legal, only he can use his copy of the developer...

Are you saying this is incorect and he could actually do this for me?
(legally)

I do not remember seeing anything in the licence that limits using the
developer edition only on files created by the registered user. It would be
illegal of him to give you a copy of the program, but if you pay him to do
the conversion I do not see why this would be illegal. This would be the
same as if you wrote a program and got someone to compile it. Have your
friend make a small change to the database, then it will become his
property, which he can then legally turn into a run-time version. You
should check with Microsoft just to be sure.
