I am getting a runtime error on Windows 2000 Professional (SP4) system when
trying to run Windows Messenger.

Program: C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe

R6025
-pure virtual function call

I searched MS's knowledge base, but the only resolution that I can find
specifies to modify the code. Has anyone seen this error and have a working
solution?

Greetings,

Do you happen to be running Norton Antivirus? Recent versions of Norton Antivirus added a
new
"instant messaging scanning" feature, which can conflict with Messenger and cause it to also
keep starting. To stop it, open Norton Antivirus (Right-click on the Norton Antivirus icon in
the System Tray/Notification Area (by the clock), choose 'Open Norton Antivirus'), click
Options, then Instant Messenger then uncheck MSN Instant Messenger or Windows Messenger and
click OK.

No, I run McAfee. Only my Windows 2000 systems are experiencing this
problem. All my Windows XP systems run fine.

Has anyone found a resolution to this? In my case, if I log on as an
administrator it works fine, if i log on as normal user it does not. This
situation only affects one machine out of 50 configured almost exactly the
same. I do not have any antivirus running that monitors messaging services.

Thanks in advance, Jeff
