I'm getting the same error. I've seen a bunch of others with the problem
when searching on Google, though no one seems to know how to resolve it.

I got the same message on Monday 1st Aug.. Added information that
no-one else appears to have posted:

1. It only occurs on my Windows account, not my wile's (We are using
Windows XP home edition on the same computer)

2. I can use Windows Explorer as an Internet Browser successfully, even
from my account.

The computer has always been protected with Microsoft and Spybot anti
spyware which is kept up to date. Also with AVG anti-virus. The XP
firewall is activated. All Microsoft patches were installed some days
before the error.

Runtime Library Microsoft Visual C++, Runtime Error Program
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe or Iexplore.exe, abnormal program termination.
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/CommonName.html
or
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=TROJ_AGENT.BK
also make sure you don't have both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT
compiler enabled.

Sorry, no help. There is no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CommonName or
TargetSoft entry. Microsoft VM JIT is not installed (as far as I know).

I created a new local account. That also works OK (but I want to
preserve my current account setup if at all possible).

I found the solution elsewhere: I uninstalled Google Tool Bar from
Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. I then rebooted (don't know if this
was essential). IExplore then loaded. It continued to work after I
reinstalled the Toolbar software.

Thanks for the feedback.

Frank, I had the same problem and appreciate the solution. Dell could not
help. I did not need to reboot.

I am getting the same error only when other users are logged on with IE
windows open in their accounts.

I have observed the same problem. And it also occurred the first time I used
IE Explorer right out the Dell box. I tried the parasite links and I don't
think that is the problem. I also do not have the Microsoft VM JIT compiler
enabled.

The work around is to go into the other accounts and close the IE window but
I am not a big fan of a work-around.

Hi Brian,
This is probably being caused by another program. Did you try ToolbarCop:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm to see if there's something
installed that's not obvious?

Have you been through IE> Tools> Manage add-ons and disabled add-ons?

I tried Toolbar cop and did not notice anything out of the ordinary. I did
go through the IE> Tools> Manage add-ons and disabled all add-ons with the
exception of McAfee antivirus.

I am still puzzled that this problem occurred right out of the box the very
first time we accessed the Internet through IE.

Thanks
Brian
