Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
abnormal program termination

We have two web applications that use Java. One requires Java 1.4 and
the other requires Java 1.3. If someone is in the one that requires
Java 1.4 and then navigates to the second one that requires 1.3, they
get the above error. However, if the two apps are opened in two
seperate browsers, the problem does not exist. I have seen this
problem all over Google, however there are no suitable solutions. I
have Microsoft JVM unchecked in the Tools, Options. And no, it is not
a parasite, as suggested in every thread I searched. Thanks for any
input. I would love to put this lingering problem to rest!

Try uninstalling Google toolbar from Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs.

It does not have the Google toolbar installed. This is a baseline 2000
image with sp4 and all updates. There is no third party apps installed
besides Java 1.3 & 1.4

Sorry, no more ideas here.

Shouldn't you be asking Sun for support? <eg>

Runtime Library Microsoft Visual C++, Runtime Error Program
C:\Windows\Explorer.exe or Iexplore.exe, abnormal program termination.

also make sure you don't have both the Sun JRE and the Microsoft VM JIT
compiler enabled.

Thanks, but I thought the post was rather clear.

I guess I will have to check with Sun. I was hoping I could get a
quick answer from here.

Do you make sure to unselect one before selecting the other?

What is the complete and exact error message?

How are you switching between Microsoft and Sun?

The Microsoft VM is deprecated by Microsoft:

This link is the exact same problem that I am having. He explained it
perfectly, describing going from 1.4 to 1.3.

Here's the complete error:

Sun has something on their site, however, I have to have a paid account
to read it. Anyone have one? If so, please paste the text.

I have only seen this error caused by Java when both the MS Java and the Sun
Java are turned on. I imagine that it could be caused by having two Sun
versions enabled. I Uninstall the JRE before installing a new version and I
no longer have the MS VM.

I understand. We do not make a habit of having more than one version
installed, however, we are forced to since one piece of software
requires version 1.4 and another requires version 1.3.

bummer.
I'd try really hard to replace both with versions that use the latest
version of 1.5, which is more secure.

No can do. These junk applications have it hard coded to only run if
the certain version is present. Always two steps back...
Thanks for your help.
