Runtime Error when I try to run Internet Explorer on two profiles

When I try to run IE I get this error.
This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way,
please contact the application support team for more information.

I have Windows XP Home SP2 and IE 6.0.2900.2180. I cannot uninstall IE and
when I try to install 6.1 it tells me that I have a newer version and the
install terminates. The weird thing is - that only occurs on two profiles -
the other 3 work fine! Unfortunately I have to use Netscape right now - can
anyone help me out?

Hi,
This is usually caused by another program- usually malware. Malware can
affect just some user accounts. Start at IE> Tools> Manage add-ons. It's
possible that a BHO or other add-on is causing the problem.

Next, download and run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot. Check for
updates before running Ad-aware or Spybot.
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Also note the security tips and other important information on that page.

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
for analysis. Start at

http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through the preliminary cleaning
steps then post a HijackThis log to the forum at

Be patient. It's a busy forum.

proper procedure.

Hi Don
I had the same problem myself today and this fixed mine. It was a BHO (it
took me a while to figure what that was). Do I leaveit disabled or do I
delete it. the culprit appears to be a "Read File Class by RFA Inc and the
file is rfa.dll

Hi Bob,
A google search indicates that rfa.dll belongs to the PWSteal.Bankash.F
trojan. See:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pwsteal.bankash.f.html
You should update your antivirus program and do a full system scan. There
are some free AV programs listed at http://www.aumha.org/freeware/mfav.htm
This trojan is recent. I don't know which programs, other than Symantec,
will remove it.

You probably have other malware installed. Working through the quickfix
protocol at http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm would be a good idea. Post a
HijackThis log if you have difficulty with the cleanup.

Oh Great Varnau, ask Rookie if he is running the Google T-Bar. When you
suggested I re-install it, it fixed my Run Time Error problem with IE.

Good point. The Google toolbar would be listed in Manage add-ons, but I
should have mentioned it, specifically.

Thank you all. I removed the Google toolbar in Manage add-ons and was able to
start the internet explorer 6 with out the runtime error. All works well
thanks to your message about the Google toolbar.

Don,

Pardon my ignorance and lack of techo savvy.
I am having the same problem and have followed the thread of conversation.

Please explain how I get to IE>Tools>Manage add-ons from the start menu. I
cannot open my IE browser.

Assistance appreciated.
