runtime error 1004 can anybody help?

I installed an add-in software in excel 2003. recently, i
can not open it. ever time i hit its button in excel and
got the following message

runtime error 1004: this workbook is currently referenced
by another workbook and can not be closed.

i did not open any other software and only one blank
workbook--book1 in excel is opened. i know little about
excel. after searching the microsoft I still do not know
how to deal with it.

could anybody help me out?

Its hard to say without more information.... I have recevied that 100
run-tiume error when I have one worksheet that retrives or attempts t
manipulate another workbook with VBA code.

For example, if I have a macro written in Workbook1 that says copy Cel
A1 of Sheet 1 of Workbook1 and paste it into Cell B1 of Sheet1 o
Workbook2, I need two workbooks open for the code to work (namely
workbook named "Workbook1" and another "Workbook2").

Did you write or record any macros in the sheet?

Also, what happens when you click de-bug after the run-time error

thanks so much for your reply. I didn't write any record or macros i
the sheet. this is a blank sheet.

at last I reinstalled the add-in software several times. it did wor
eventually. and I still don't know the source of the problem. onl
hope it won't appear in the future. thanks so much for your ver
detailed help.
